In 2014, the first Beetcoin campaign raised $60,000 loan for a 0% loan to Bauman Cedar Valley Farm (Garnett, KS).
Shortly thereafter, the slow money movement’s first local 0% loan group formed in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley. Today, that group has 130 members and has made $665,000 in 0% loans to 33 farms and food businesses. Three more Colorado groups followed, in Boulder, Salida and Durango, as well as one in Charlottesville, VA. Over 375 local members and donors have contributed some $1.5 million to the five groups and 72 loans have been made. New local groups are in the works both in the U.S. and abroad. Matching grants to these groups, funded by your Beetcoin donation, push these efforts forward, getting more capital to flow and growing an authentic movement for systemic change.
All of which is pretty much the opposite of cryptocurrency. No complicated intermediary schemes. No blockchain. No server farms. Instead, shared vision, common purpose and common sense. Bringing some of our money back down to earth. In the name of health and peace.
